Padel Court Launch Event, Killyhyevlin Lakeside Hotel &Lodges Sunday 12th June 2022

A brand newsport has arrived in Fermanagh, as Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel & Lodges officially launched its Padel Court by hosting the ‘Irish Tour Challenge’ along with a range of Padel Clinics to showcase the game.

Padel is a fun, social racket sport for all abilities and ages, typically played in doubles on an enclosed court. It is easy to pick up, which explains why its popularity is exploding around the world. It is the fastest growing sport in Europe and is increasing in popularity across the UK, US and Canada.

In line with Killyhevlin’s continuous improvement program and recent investment projectincluding the launch of six self-catering Woodland Lodges with private hot tubs, extensive bedroom refurbishment and enhanced fitness facilities, the Padel Court at Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel & Lodges will lead the way in new leisure pursuits with the first ever purpose-built Padel court at a hotel in Northern Ireland.

Padel has gained increasing popularity over recent years as it is an exciting, enjoyable, competitive, social, entertaining to watch, and fun to play sport.

Celebrityfans and players of Padel include Andy Murray, Zinedine Zidane, Rafael Nadal, David Beckham, Lionel Messi, Maria Sharapova, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

At the launch event players from Padel Clubs across Ireland played the ‘Irish TourChallenge’, spectators had the opportunity to see the brand-new court, trytheir hand at Padel with dedicated ‘come and try clinics’ and watch some of the Federations best players in action.

Joint directors Jacqueline Wright and Leigh Watson said: “We are really proud and excited to partner with the Padel Federation of Ireland to officially open the first ever Padel facility at a hotel in Northern Ireland.  It was great to welcome players to participate in the ‘Irish Tour Challenge’ along with Health Club Members and Fermanagh locals to watch the tournament and participate in Padel Clinics try out the game. The new Padel Court is a great addition to the leisure facilities available at Killyhevlin Health Club including swimming pool, sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room, outdoor hot tub, gym and ‘Killy Kids’ playpark.

President of The Padel Federation of Ireland, Naomi Nicholl, said: “The sport of Padel has huge potential to grow in Fermanagh because it is fun, easy to pick up and highly sociable. Other European countries - like Italy, France, Belgium, Portugal, and Sweden - are seeing enormous take up of the sport.  We are really pleased to support the opening of the first court at a Hotel in Northern Ireland and look forward to seeing people of all ages play and hearing about their experiences of what is still a relatively new but fast-growing game. Ireland has been represented at European and International level since 2019 and we would look forward to having representatives from Fermanagh and the surrounding areas.”

The Padel Court at Killyhevlin is open daily and to celebrate the official launch anyone wanting to trial the game can play for half price on the Killyhevlin Court until 30th June 2022.
